npower’s Rainton ready to ring the bell for Sport Relief

npower’s Rainton call centre in the North East is delighted to announce its support for Sport Relief 2016 as a call centre for the night of TV.

On Friday 18th March, Sport Relief will be taking over the UK and in true npower form, staff from the call centre in Rainton will be throwing themselves wholeheartedly into the day with various fundraising activities and will have 75 phone lines open until midnight.

More than 100 npower staff from all over the business will be giving up their Friday nights as volunteers manning the phone lines. As well as receiving donations, the team will also be fundraising with various activities taking place - from donning their favourite sports t-shirts for the day to raffles and even a spin bike competition to get the fundraising wheels in motion.

Chris Thewlis, npower’s Customer Services Director, comments: “I'm really proud of our team at Rainton who are giving up their Friday nights to support this great cause. Sport Relief brings the nation together to have fun, raise cash and change lives - it is great for npower to play its part and our people are really passionate about supporting both our local community and fantastic causes like this.”

Mike Davies, part of the volunteering team at npower’s Rainton base, said: “It’s been a busy few weeks preparing for the big night on Friday, from making sure the phone lines are all ready, to recruiting volunteers.  We have many new and returning volunteers keen to be involved, with some even working a normal 9-5 day before hitting the phone lines. We’re expecting a very busy evening and we’ll be ready and waiting to take your calls.”

This year’s Sports Relief support follows on from a hugely successful evening in March 2015, when North East call centre handled around 1,900 calls for Red Nose Day and took thousands in donations from generous members of the public, helping to raise cash to give extremely vulnerable and disadvantaged people a helping hand to turn their lives around.

Sport Relief brings the entire nation together to get active, raise cash and change lives. Half of all the money the public raises is spent by Comic Relief right here at home in the UK, with the other half used to make a difference in the world’s poorest communities. Since 2002, Sport Relief has raised over £262 million.

Sport Relief 2016 is going to be the biggest and best yet, with more ways than ever for everyone to take part, change lives and feel proud.
