Novelty Bakers from near Mansfield win free regional advertising campaign

A Nottinghamshire novelty bakers was one of two small businesses (SMEs) to have won a Midlands regional radio competition for its innovative approach of combining the greetings card and confectionery markets.

BakerDays Ltd, which is based in New Ollerton, Mansfield,  won the free radio advertising campaign and £1,000 prize money, in a competition run jointly between Free Radio, Gem 106 and npower Business.


Andrea Guzyova and greeting card entrepreneur, Alan Hawkes, set up BakerDays Ltd in Hawkes’ front room. The business, which bakes and creates cakes of all shapes and sizes, employs 20 employees and has a turnover of £1.2 million, with further plans to expand by the end of the year. Its most popular products are photo cakes and its signature letterbox cake, which is a birthday gift cake which can be posted by Royal Mail through people’s letterboxes.


Andrea Guzyova, the Managing Director of BakerDays Ltd, said: “Setting, up, developing and managing an SME is an exciting and challenging role.  An area we are dedicated to constant improvement is how we promote our business within the local areas and further reaches.  Winning this competition has been fantastic and highlighted new ways to achieve further success in our field.”
