Worcester call centre rings for success for Children in Need

The npower office in Worcester is celebrating a successful year as an official call centre for Children in Need.

More than 100 employees manned the 50 dedicated phone lines, taking over 1,600 calls throughout the night. Donations taken totalled over £58,000 - adding to the record-breaking amount of £46.6m that has been donated to Children In Need in total.

Staff were kept energised throughout their volunteering efforts, which began at 6pm on Friday and ended at 1am on Saturday, by a range of games and activities on-site.

The volunteers, who work at npower offices across the country, got into the spirit of things by dressing up as part of the ‘do your thing’ theme. npower is currently searching for the nation’s family super powers, so volunteers were encouraged to dress up as their favourite superheroes for the evening.

David Titterton, Director of Energy Services at npower, said: “Call centres up and down the country play a vital role for Children in Need. By giving the general public a quick and easy way to donate we are doing our bit to help an incredibly worthy cause. Our volunteers really pulled out all the stops to keep the flow of calls going continuously throughout the entire night. It was great to see everyone come together from across npower to help and have fun. The energy and passion for the cause was amazing!”

Lian Hitchen, organiser of the activity and Hometeam Site Operations Manager, also commented: “We’re so proud to be able to carry on the amazing volunteering efforts here at npower six years in a row, and for the first time at our contact centre in Worcester. We had npower people from all over the country volunteer to help and man the phones, which created a fantastic atmosphere. Everyone had a great time!”
