Sunderland's npower employees take part in the Macmillan Mighty Hike series and raise thousands for Macmillan

10 employees from npower’s Rainton office in Sunderland powered through searing heat on a 25 mile hike from Keswick to Ambleside across the beautiful Lake District in aid of their charity partner, Macmillan Cancer Support.

In partnership with the Macmillan’s Mighty Hike Series, 10 employees from Rainton were apart of 40 npower employees from multiple offices to take on the 25 mile challenge.

Each member had an individual fundraising target of £150 which they collectively beat to raise a staggering £7,000 raised. This was matched pound for pound by npower, tipping the total fundraising pot over to £14,000.

James Lester Gray, Senior Complaints Advisor from npower’s Rainton office said:  “I wanted to do the hike because I lost both of my Grandmothers to cancer. I am absolutely crippled and had to use my parents stair lift to get up and down the stairs after - but every single bit of pain was well worth it knowing that I completed the full hike!”

Joining the npower team on the hike from Macmillan, Nuala Blackshaw, Corporate Partnerships Officer, said: “A huge thank you on behalf of everyone at Macmillan to the 40 npower employees who took part in the Lake District Mighty Hike. It was a huge challenge to undertake – especially in the gruelling heat and with all the blisters. So far they have raised an amazing £14,000 which will help make a big difference to people affected by cancer with fuel grants. Thank you to everyone involved – whether you volunteered, hiked or donated.”

Npower have partnered with Macmillan for 13 years now and have raised thousands of pounds to help over 34,000 families.
