On their marks for Macmillan - Local employees complete fun run for charity

Over 30 employees from npower’s Rainton House office took part in a 5km fun run around the Rainton Bridge Business Park to raise funds for Macmillan Cancer Support, npower’s charity partner of 14 years.

During the run, which is in its 3rd year, the team raised money for Macmillan, which npower matched pound for pound, taking the grand total to £700.

Each runner completed an impressive 6,600 steps in the 5km circuit route to raise funds.

npower employee Heather Mickle, who competes in the run every year, explains why the event is important to her ‘’ I love running but doing it to help a charity like Macmillan means so much more to me. I’ve had a family member go through cancer, beat it, and has now been cancer free for two years. I can’t wait until next year’s event to help raise even more money for such a good cause and a charity very close to my heart’.’

npower’s David France was the first man to cross the 5km finishing line in 17 minutes and 20 seconds, he said  “It was another great event for an amazing charity. The Macmillan team do a fantastic job. Congratulations to everyone who finished.”

Hannah Warren was the first lady to finish the same route, completing it in 25 minutes and 30 seconds. She said: ‘’ I really enjoyed the run for Macmillan it was a great atmosphere. Doing a fun run is definitely a great way to raise money and awareness for Macmillan. It also helps to improve fitness and promote an active, healthy lifestyle.’’

Catrin Hale, Senior Partnership Development Manager at Macmillan Cancer Support, said: “It’s fantastic that npower employees took up this challenge and raised money for Macmillan. The number of people living with cancer in the UK is rising and so we greatly appreciate the continued dedication of employees at npower. The money raised will allow Macmillan to continue providing vital practical, emotional and personal support. Thank you!”
